Sales tax holidays vary by state. Visit your state’s Department of Revenue (or equivalent) website for more specific information about available sales tax holidays.
Sales tax exemptions only apply to qualifying item(s) sold through Instacart within each state’s specific date range as determined by the applicable state in its sole discretion. Orders placed during the tax holiday but delivered after it ends don’t qualify for sales tax exemption. The sales tax holiday doesn’t include any exemptions on Instacart service or delivery fee(s) that may apply (Instacart fees and taxes).
Examples include, but are not limited to, the following:
Texas: No sales tax on most clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks, up to $99.99 per item. Applies to state-approved merchandise only. Valid 8/11-8/13/2023. Texas Comptroller Sales Tax Holiday
New Jersey: No sales tax on state-approved school art supplies, school instructional materials, school supplies, and sport or recreational equipment. No sales tax on state-approved school computer supplies up to $999.99 per item, and certain computers up to $2,999.99 per item. Valid 8/26 – 9/04/2023. New Jersey Treasury Sales Tax Holiday
Note: If your shopper replaces your original qualifying item with one that doesn’t qualify, you won’t receive the sales tax exemption. Learn more about changing your replacement preferences.
